There are problems with horse remains found at ?Dereivka.  First of all, is Dereivka a site in the mid Dnieper Valley?  Next, on the web (Google) I searched two site reports from Dereivka and found no indication of horse bones; only a few human bones.   But I did find a report by Andrew Gregnovich indicating finding horse teeth at Dereivka.  In my original transcription of the lecture I had written Vasilievka but couldn't locate anything so I thought I misheard Dereivka and changed the term.

In the Google search I also found mention of Yasinovatka Cemetery and the presence of horse bones.  If anyone has any further information to add, I be most appreciative.  I'll post additional information in a second email.

I gather there are some problems with the Dereivka horses. They seem to be secondary depositions.  I've not see anything lately, but this would seem to put the earliest archaeological context for *domestic* horses back to the Volga region.

Remains of the domesticated horse only have been found at Dereivka.
That the horse might have been domesticated at the end of the
Paleolithic is an "old idea". The horse was not used for riding
because the wild horse is dangerous; the only use was as a loading
animal.
