Soul < OE sa:w(o)l has nothing to do with 'sun'! The PGmc. reconstruction is *saiwalo: (Gothic saiwala), which, judging from its structure alone, might conceivably be related to *saiw-a-/*saiw-i- 'sea', but not to any other element.
