That's interesting: Waters of the Sky and Waters of the Earth... IRIS and STYX?
 
I think the PIE Parental Couple was Father Day-Sky and Mother Night-Sky. The Earth Mother was the wife of Thunder-God the most powerful of Sky's children. The Thunder burns the Earth, so Dionysos Pyrisporos "Born from Fire", son of Zeus and Semele.

It's occured to me there may have been a distinction between moonlit and moonless night skies. Some sort of Hecate, perhaps, patron goddess of night-baying dogs and things that go bump in the night.
 
 
But, isn't the distinction between the waters of the sky, the waters of the earth, and the earth itself? The IEs seem to have been landlubbers, well away from any oceanic experience. Water welled up from the body of Mother Earth in springs or streams, or came down from Sky-Father, both of whom kept her moist.
