Thank you for address and a beautiful photo. Looks like a predecessor of the Germany's national emblem, though I've always thought the last comes from Rome.
By the way, I'm going to order the two other books you recommended at shop.barnesandnoble.com (just a bit cheaper than at amazon.com).

If approached, I don't think he would mind answering any questions about Goths or Vandals, or about the availability of his book. He has led the excavations of a third-century Gothic colonisation area in eastern Poland (near Hrubieszów, a stone's throw from the Pripyat' Marshes). View the enclosed photo of a nice Gothic eagle from those parts.
