The Rig-Veda: What it entails.

 Rig-Veda
Reading the Rig-Veda in translation:

What's entailed? The Rig-Veda is long. The online text is about 1.8 megs. There are more than 1,000 psalm-length poems.

The available translations are quite limited. It seems only selections are available in modern translations. There is an overblown Victorian translation online:

The main issue is finding an adequate introduction. I've done cursory searches at the online book stores, but nothing seems available. This is not quite like plunging into the Iliad  by yourself, where you likely have a basic background in Greek myth. For myself, I'm quite ignorant of Vedic mythology. Without notes or other kind of guidance, I would miss a great deal.

Yes, I'm game critically read through the Rig-Veda, but without some guidance I'd miss too much. It would not be worth the effort.

But yes, I would like to do it. Were I to find a couple or three others who are like-minded, maybe we can find a willing scholar to point us in the right direction. Perhaps there already exists something, but I sure have not found it.

Has anyone here actually read the work?

Mark.
