If Paliac is known only via some clay scraps from Hittite ruins, but we know enough to group it with IE Anatolian..and assign it regionally to Mysia (?) (NW Anatolia).... How did we name it? Specifically, what is the source of the name? I have a guess..but thats all it is so far.
Palaic (called Palaumnili in the Hittite texts) was the language of Pala, a rather inconspicuous region forming the northern fringe of the Hittite kingdom, northwest of Hattusas, on the western bank of the River Halys (Kyzylyrmak). Though it's known from just about twenty passages (mostly referring to the local religious cult), it is evident that the language was closely related to Hittite and Luwian.Piotr
