It is the exact truth, Glen. Linguistic classification must be pure linguistic
(it's so badly when the present day geography interferes), genetic study must be
pure genetic etc. (Nerevtheles it's always useful to have a notion of other
disciplines just to form "clear" and representative excerptions for
investigation)
However if one does an ivestigation of ethnogenesis (history of human
populations) (s)he has to take into account data of linguistics, genetics,
history, archaeology, ethnography, mythology, paleobiology, paleogeography ...
(I'm sure I forgot to mention something important). Ethnogenesis is an integral
process which has many aspects.
