First, Thanks to Piotr and Gerry for the responses on the Bronocice
question. Particularly for the picture (Piotr) and the links (Gerry)..
I will check the links and pop you off list, Gerry, if any don't work.
I am now adequately Bronociced and wheeled.
Hi Stephanie..know you from ancien-L and "ane"....welcome.
Now..for those of you who believe Inanna is an "original" even if
pre-Sumerian..I offer the following, cut from my post in a different
argument (er...I mean discussion) on another list:
I would recommend looking at Hannahanna, most known as a minor
Hittite "grandmother" goddess; but I believe this is only resilient
of a pre Hittite goddess of stronger position as a mother Goddess in earlier
Aegean coastal Anatolia cultures (not necessarily Hattic). She apparently
also had a birth related application, assumed much later by Artemis. Besides
the similarity of the name...the older Anatolian myths refer to Hannahanna
using a "bee"..as a confidant and messenger ..employed to find a few lost
Gods, and rewarded for its service. In Sumerian myth..Innana rewarded a
"fly" for a similar role in finding Dumazi, who had escaped to avoid
"assignment" to the underworld. So..which was first?
