I guess it's possible to tread the fine line in the middle. This
certainly
would be the ideal state of a good democracy but the cultural pendulum
keeps on swinging back and forth.

Gerry: But isn't the great sweep of the cultural pendulum what
democracy's all about? If we nestle into the center of the arc, then we
become socialists; at the left sweep of the pendulum we're anarchists
and at the right extreme we are "John Birchers".
