---??? I don't think it is. I'm pretty sure that in English,
as in Polish, it refers mainly to Lutheran clergy. And if
you DEMOTE a higher rank, you just get a lower rank ;-).
Gerry: Well, Piotr, I don't think you're correct. In the Catholic
Church of my childhood, the most senior was monsigneur and the least
senior was father. Pastor was a term we reserved for the priest who
wore the silk vestaments while the fathers wore their basic black.
Unless of course the real story was that my church could only afford
silks for 1 person. But then, since I think my parents might have been
Jewish, perhaps they were the ones who called the one in silk "pastor"
and it had nothing to do with the customs of the Polish Church.
Ah well. At least we know that it was Martin Luthur who nailed the
Edict of Wurms to his Church's door.
