Thanks for the information about the phrase "so be it".
<< Chad, what do you mean by Balto-Slavic evidence? I can't see anything like
a Sun Maiden on the Slavic side.>>
I was referring to the Baltic goddess called Saules meita that is found in
Latvian folk songs. She is mainly associated with the Dieva deli (much like
the Vedic Asvins and Surya) where she is their bride and she is rescued from
drowning by them. I know that it is a large leap to make to associate a
Celtic goddess like Sulis who has solar attributes and thermal healing
attributes with a figure like Saules meita, and the healing associations may
be limited to the Celtic type of the Sun Maiden (maybe a convergence of the
IE Sun Maiden with the numerous deities - usually goddesses - associated with
local "healing" springs now that I think about it). But it is the
assoication of Saules meita with water, although in the form of a rescue,
that makes me think that the PIE Sun Maiden may have had healing attributes
associated with water that was caused by the healing power of the sun, which
was the aspect of the sun that she represented rather than the physical
object of the sun that was represented by the Sun God.
