What do you mean by "Ringe's work at U Penn"? I've read about The
Computational Historical Linguistics Project
(
http://linc.cis.upenn.edu/~histling/home.html). There is an explanation of
the word PHYLOGENY on that page but I still don't think I understand it and
cannot imagine how reliable these things can be. I mean, how could a
computer go beyond the knowledge of his programmer in case of comparative
linguistics? Maybe you could tell me more about this.
