Yes, medieval manuscript copying of Greek books had
developed quite a cursive script with lots of ligatures.
Early printers in Italy and France made printing types to
try to recreate this kind of script. A good book on this
subject with lots of illustrations is *Greek Letters: From
Tablets to Pixels* edited by Michael Macrakis, 1996, Oak
Knoll Press, New Castle, Delaware. ISBN 1-884718-27-2
