It reminds me of far-worse messes I have seen in older versions of Opera
when rendering Vietnamese. In those cases, the "rendering engine" (for the
screen, not print) apparently changed fonts temporarily to render a
character not in the principal font. Differences in typographic "color"
(apparent blackness), style, and writing-line position all showed.

Although the result looked like ransom-note text, at least all the letters
(and, I assume, needed diacritics) were there.
