Those using Windows XP (or another version with Unicode Character Map) can see
the effect of this by going into Character Map and switching from a standard font
such as Arial (whose character codes in the status bar are given in Unicode form,
e.g. U+0021 Exclamation Mark) to a nonstandard font such as Wingdings--whose
character codes are given in a range from 0x21 to 0xFF, i.e. a range of 223 characters.
