I work with one child (who hears with a hearing aid) who never
learned to sign - she came to Canada from somewhere else - I met her
at age 10 and I won't start her over again in ASL since her English
is increasing at a fast pace now.

And my entire point is that a child has to learn at some point to
speak the language that they are learning to read.
