In Colo. Springs, Colo., around 1961, a local radio announcer who narrated
a commercial for a restaurant mispronounced "cuisine" as "koo-sine", with
a very strong emphasis on the first syllable (short-duration vowel). I
don't know whether it was ever corrected...
