Yes, I thought that the cursor placement was part of "editing". In
Microsoft Works, with an earlier Uniscribe version, the cursor can
be placed within the akshara. In Wordpad, which, on my computer,
runs a more recent Uniscribe version, the cursor can not be placed
within the akshara. However, the backspacing characterisics vary
greatly from one application to another (I have downloaded some
from different places). The downloaded applications seem to be
running off the more recent Uniscribe version according to cursor
behaviour as it cannot be placed within the akshara.

Anyhow, I can now compare different applications and see how
backspacing and cursor placement are independent.
