Unicode rendering engines have to render the nine scripts (no, that
doesn't include Latin or Urdu) differently *because* they are encoded
isomorphically. The special treatment of Cu syllables in Malayalam,
to take Peter's own example, is not reflected in the encoding of
Malayalam, but is left entirely up to the rendering process.

(We aren't really disagreeing.)
