I would not like the next generation to be cut off from all previous
written English.

Look what happens in Norway or the Netherlands. Ibsen gets republished
in the new orthography, but the vast majority of 19th-century authors
don't. But we can read anything back to Swift and Pope and Dryden (if
not Milton) exactly as they spelled them.
