I am just a neophite to most everybody on this site, I just happen love alphabets and scripts. However the only other example that I can think of where color played a role is the Inca quipu. But that begs the question was the quipu true writing or just a mnemonic devise. I don't think that has ever been answered satisfactorily.

Most interesting.

I went to Mr. Atanasiu's site, URL just above; it's in French, and I know
just enough French to feel fairly confident that that site is a
masterpiece. (I didn't explore his English section.)

From his site:
"Vlad Atanasiu est doctorant l'Ecole pratique des Hautes Etudes (Section
des Sciences Historiques et Philologiques). Ses recherches portent sur la
Calligraphie et la lingustique arabes."

Were I to know the c.v.'s and biographies of all the subscribers to Qalam,
I'd probably be awe-struck. There are more than a few Famous Names here.
(Could we interest Asmus Freytag in subscribing?)

Qalam is one very fine example of civilization at its best; it's a credit
to Seshat, as well; I'm very glad she started it.
My humble role is that of a dilettante chatterbox. (^_^)
