They are discussing Chinese writing *on* computers.

This is one of the examples of on-topic subjects explicitly listed in
the Qalam home page (http://www.egroups.com/group/qalam):

"(...); i18n, character sets and input methods; (...)"

"I18n" (= "internationalization [of software]") is an acronym used in
the computer industry. The phrases "character sets" and "input
methods" are also computer jargon.

I am sorry if these terms are not transparent enough and/or have
different meanings in other fields. I will consider editing the Qalam
home page to make this clearer.

I tried my best to describe the topic when I set up the mailing list,
and I am available to explain it again and again if this is not clear.

But, whithin the bounds that I have defined, I cannot and I do not
want to tell to people what shey should talk about. I am the
moderator here, not the teacher.

I did my best, and I am willing to improve.

The whole Unicode List was invited (so, no surprise that computers
are quite popular here); the moderators of all eGroups mailing list
about writing systems were invited, and asked to extend the
invitation to their lists' members; several well-known experts
(including you) were invited personally, and many of you have honored
us with your presence.

About the specific example above, I see several members who have a
sufficient knowledge of Tamil to come up with an answer. But possibly
they are too busy, or they decided to reply privately.

Moreover, the "recruiting campaign" is not necessarily ended. And any
member is hereby authorized to invite other people, or to ask me to
invite them.

Regards.
