Dear Professor Daniels,

The purpose of this list, as stated in the Qalam home page
(http://www.egroups.com/group/qalam) and already discussed before, is
to chat about any aspect of the writing systems of the world.

I admit that this is a very vast and vague topic, and that no one on
earth -- not even world-wide experts on the subject -- is really
supposed to be interested in *any* aspect of it.

So, everybody feel free to make a merciless use of your "Delete"
button. And of course, if your finger hurts too much, feel free to
unsubscribe from the list.

The same page mentioned above also summarizes the commands to
subscribe, unsubscribe, post, and so on. The command to unsubscribe
is also mentioned at the end of every post: "qalam-unsubscribe @
egroups.com".

I reckon that the current discussion about splitting kanji is on
topic and welcome -- but this is not to say that it shall ot will
monopolize the whole Qalam list.

It is perfectly normal, in a mailing list, that several subjects are
discussed at the same time.

So I invite everybody wishing to do so to talk about something else.

On this respect, I take the liberty to point out that, recently, some
members *did* try to talk about something else, but their messages
remained unanswered so far. E.g.:

- "Problem identifying a couple of Tamil characters" posted by Thomas
Tvegaard on October 24, 2000 (http://www.egroups.com/message/qalam/78)

- "TrueType font for my invented script" posted by Doug Ewell on
October 28, 2000 (http://www.egroups.com/message/qalam/94)

Anyone wishing to take the challenge with these requests?

Regards.
Seshat (Qalam owner)
