Hello,

Bh compounds are generally noun compounds having a noun as their final
member with the addition of the idea of possessing. Now in early Sanskrit
you can only tell the difference between dependent compounds and possessive
compounds by the difference of accent. However, there is no accent in Pali
so we have to go by the context, which is easy because bh.s behave like
adjectives qualifying any given noun. There may be cases where a bh would
seem so deviate from the general type. However, there will always be
borderline cases. The most important thing to do is to analyse carefully
those cases that do not seem to fall into any of the usual categories. In
general, however, the possessive compounds are noun compounds i.e. ending in
a noun.

Hello Rene,

I don't insist on holding any position. If I am wrong, then I will accept
it. As it is, I have mentioned that I am a newbie to all of this, so it is
always possible for me to be wrong in any number of ways. However, I do
find Rett's arguments somewhat convincing, although I would like to hear
from others who are well-versed in compounds too.
I am willing to accept the truth whether it includes a noun at the end or
not.
