Dines Andersen and Helmer Smith have published The Pali Dhaatupaa.tha and the Dhaatuma.njuusaa, Copenhagen 1921. It may be difficult to get. Apart from that you will find an almost complete collection of roots included in Aggavamsa's Saddaniiti, which H. Smith published 1928-54. It has been reprinted by Pali Text Society. The Danish scholar V. Trenckner, made a complete list of all paali roots occurring in the canon, with references to every single form in the manner of Whitney's roots of the Sanskrit language.Unfortunately it has proved next to impossible to have Trenckner's handwritten ms. edited and published. There is absolutely no interest at present here in Denmark for such a project.

Best regards,

Ole Pind

Emne: [Pali] How to find out the root of a Pali verb

Dear friends

What is the Pali root of jhaayati which means to burn, not to meditate? PED gives only Sanskrit root.
Is there any reference book by looking into which we can know the root of a Pali verb?
