That's just what THEY want you to believe. Cook actually a
reduplicated form of k, meaning "to burn." The reduplication is there
to indicated intensity. I know I always burn stuff when I cook. The
the /U/ is an epenthetic vowel which agrees with the k's in
frontness.

Of course Basque isn't the original language. Basque is just an
Etruscan-Martian creole. Larry Trask says something to that effect on
his web page.
