Thanks Andy.

There are so many languages included.  Can a Bunaban speaker understand Burarran?  Does a Muran understand Pam-Nyungan?

Ethnologue is an excellent source:  www.ethnologue.com/  but I don't see mega families being included.  Are these mega families necessary?

As I've often stated:  languages are as extensive as are the valleys of the world.  IOW, whenever a group moves from their parent domicile to their own abode, a new "language" arises.

Subject: [Nostratica] Inventory of Australian languages as per Ethnologue

I hope the Nostratica list allows attachments because Yahoo mail doesn't preserve the formatting I used for this list of language families, and I am not subscribed to the list via my work email address.  If attachments are allowed, here's the full list.  Enjoy.

This list is arranged as follows:

Language family names are all the way to the left; Branch, sub-branch, and
language names are indented according to their relative position within the
family.  Family and Branch names are capitalized ONLY on the first letter
of the name; Language names are fully capitalized.  Also, there is a blank
line between each family.  The numbers in parentheses indicate the number
of languages in a given family, branch, or sub-branch, respectively.

You will notice that some families have very few members,
while others, such as the Pama-Nyungan famiy, are quite large.  Many of
these languages are extinct or very nearly so.  In the case of the
unclassified group, there are between one and three living speakers of
those languages, and apparently, there isn't enough information available
about these languages to fit them into one of the established families.
