Thought Amerind was a term reserved for Native American Groups located in the US?

Yes, but it's important to remember that "American" means only
"of the US". In Canada, "America" is synonymous with "USA" as it
is in most English-speaking countries. Canadians are not Americans.
They are NORTH Americans. A strange but important fact about the
word "American" ;)
