Whoa, ye linguists. En bon français, "connaissance" ne s'écrit pas avec un "s" seul. In English at large, the spelling "cognizance" is certainly more common than "cognisance" which strikes me as a characteristically UK (& possibly Canadian) spelling (in a simple test, Google yields 58,900 hits for the former and 17,900 for the latter).

Quite right, of course, about **"connaisance".
 
I will not, à la Glen, claim that I have seen it "plus souvent". It was a simple typo.
