Hersteinn mælti: "Hefir þú svikið mig hundurinn þinn?

Herstain said: "Have you decived me, you dog?

Nú ef þú ert í nokkurum særum að leyna þá leggst þú niður í götuna og tala eigi orð.

Now if you are in somewhat wounded (?) to hide, then lay yourself in the path and don't say a word.

En ef þú gerir eigi þetta þá mun eg drepa þig."

But if you don't do this, then I will kill you."

The farmer laid himself down, and Herstein turns home and calls to his men.

Þeir taka vopn sín og fara þegar í skóginn og finna Örnólf í götunni.

They take their weapons and go at once into the forest and find Ornolfr in the path.

Þeir biðja hann fara með sér þangað sem mælt var að þeir skyldu finnast.

They ask him to go with them to there were it was spoken that they should meet up.

Now they go to where they come to a clearing (in the forest).

Then Herstein said to Ornolfr: "I don't want to oblige you to talk, but go now as was settled to you before."

Bóndi hleypur þá upp á hól einn og blístrar hátt.

The farmer then runs up on a hill (?) and whistles loudly.

Then 12 men run forward there and Haensna Thoris was there in front of (the) group.

And they, Herstein (et al) capture this man and kill (him).

Herstein himself beheads the head of Thori and keeps (it) with him; (he) rides now after that south to the Assembly and tells this news there.

Hersteinn becomes very famous from this deed and receives much honor was was accustomed.

Nú er setið yfir málum manna og verða þær málalyktir að Arngrímur goði verður sekur fullri sekt og allir þeir er að brennunni voru nema Þorvaldur Oddsson.

Now the man's case is attended to (Z. sitja 8) and the conclusion (plural in ON, but sounds better singular in English) was that chieftain Arngrimr was sentenced to the highest penalty of the law, and all the men who were at the burning except Thorvaldr Oddson.

Hann skyldi vera utan þrjá vetur og eiga þá útkvæmt.

He should be out of the country three years and then be permitted to return to Iceland.

His livestock was given (away) in front of him and so other men's ferrying over.

Thorvaldr went abroad during the summer and was led up to Scotland and enslaved there.

Now after this the Thing was ended and people esteemed Thordr and this case has (been) boldly pursued.

Chieftain Arngrimr also went abroad during the summer, and it is not fixed how much money the payment (i.e., "the fine") was.

Lýkur á þá leið þessum málum.

The way then ends to this case. (Or "This case now ends this way"?)

(The) men then ride home from the assembly, and they go abroad, it was (those) who were guilty.
