Nú skilst Hersteinn frá liðinu með þrem tigum manna þangað sem hann sagði hinn síðasta náttstað verið hafa Þorvalds Oddssonar, því að hann var þá farinn af vist sinni.

Now Hersteinn separated from the party with 30 men there as he said the latest night-quarters had been Thorvald Oddsonar's, because he he had then travelled from his abode.

Now it is not quiet (i.e., calm) in the district much talk and folk's gathering of both hands (= both sides?).

13. kafli

Það varð til tíðinda að Hænsna-Þórir hvarf brott úr héraðinu við tólfta mann þegar hann spurði hverjir í málið voru komnir og fréttist alls eigi til hans.

It became news that Haensna Thoris turned around away out of the district with 11 men, at once he learned had come in the time and didn't get all the intelligence to him.

Oddur safnar nú liði um dalina, Reykjardal hvorntveggja og Skorradal, og um allar sveitir fyrir sunnan Hvítá og þó hafði hann mart úr öðrum sveitum.

Oddr now gathers a group across the dale, Rekjardale each two and Skorrar dale, and concerning all small detatchments in the south of the land, White and though he had many people out of other districts.

Arngrímur goði safnaði mönnum um Þverárhlíð og Norðurárdal að sumum hluta.

Cheiftain Argrimr the good, had gathered together men across Þverárhlíð and Thorth-river-dale and some parts (?).

Þorkell trefill safnaði mönnum hið neðra um Mýrar og Stafholtstungur og suma Norðurdæla hefir hann með sér því að Helgi bróðir hans bjó í Hvammi og hefir hann hann með sér.

Thorkell "Tatters" gathered men underneath across Myar and Stafholtstoung and some North-dales he has with him because his brother Helgi lived in Hvammi and he has him with him.

Nú safnar Þórður gellir liði vestan og hefir eigi mart lið.

No Thordr "Yeller" gathers his body of men from the west and doesn't have a big group of men.

Hittast nú þessir allir er í voru málinu og hafa alls tvö hundruð manna, ríða nú ofan fyrir utan Norðurá og yfir á að Eyjavaði fyrir ofan Stafholt og ætla yfir Hvítá þar sem heitir Þrælastraumur.

These all now meet each other who were in the matter and have altogether two hundred men, they now ride down over from outside North-river and beyond to Eyjavadi above Stafholt and intend (to go) over White-river there where it is called thrall-stream (?).

Þá sjá þeir mannaferð mikla fyrir sunnan ána.

They then see a great ring of men on the south (side) of the river.

Tongue-Oddr is there and nearly 400 men.

(He) now quickens the pace and wants to arrive sooner to the ford.

They now meet one another at the river, and they, Oddr (and company) hop off their horses and defend the ford, but they, Thord (and the others) go disorderly riding on and wanted to come to the Thing.

Slær nú í bardaga og verða þegar áverkar.

It now came to a fight and at once there became (people) wounded.

Féllu fjórir menn af Þórði.

Four of Thord's men fell.

Þar féll Þórólfur refur bróðir Álfs úr Dölum, virðulegur maður, og hverfa nú frá við svo búið.

Thorolfr "Fox" fell there, Alf's brother from the Dales, a worthy man, and they now turn away with (?) as matters stand.

One of Oddr's men fell and three became seriously wounded.

Þórður snýr nú málinu til alþingis.

Thordr now turns the matter to the Assembly.

Þeir ríða nú heim vestur og þykir mönnum mjög hallast hafa metorð vestanmanna.

They now ride west to home and it seems much to people that the esteem has leaned to the men from the west.

Nú ríður Oddur á þingið.

Oddr now rides to the Assembly.

Hann sendi heim þræla sína með hross.

He sent his thrall home with (his) horse.

Jórunn kona hans spurði tíðinda er þeir komu heim.

His wife Jorunn askedk for the news when they came home.
