Let's get r-r-r-ready to r-r-r-rumble!!!

Búi mælti: "Ekki sýnist mér það maður.
Bui said: "That doesn't appear to me (to be) a man.

Trölli sýnist mér það líkara."
It seems to me more likely a Troll."

Konungur mælti: "Vér skulum freista þín skamma stund ef vér sjáum að þú hefir ekki við."
The King said: "We will free you in a short time if we see that you are a match for (your opponent)."

Búi mælti: "Þér munuð ráða vilja."
Bui said: "You would want agreement." (?)

Eftir það gekk Búi fram á völlinn og er fólkið sá hann þá mæltu margir að það væri illa er trölli skyldi etja upp á jafndrengilegan mann.
After that Bui went forward on the field and when the people saw him then many said that, that would be bad when (the) troll beats up (?) the equally brave man.

Þeir létu þá lausan blámanninn.
Then they let the black man free.

Hljóp hann þá grenjandi að Búa.
He ran then howling at Bui.

And when they met each other (in battle, as opposed to learning each others' names) they began exceedingly fast and wrestled.

Skildi Búi það skjótt að hann var mjög aflvani fyrir þessu kykvendi.
Bui discerned that quickly that he was very deficient-in-strength (CV) before this creature.

Forðaði hann sér þá við föllum en stóð þó fast og fór undan víða um völlinn.
He saved his live then by the field and stood, though, quickly, and went away around about the field.

Skildi Búi það að hann tók svo að bein hans mundu brotna ef eigi hlífðu honum klæðin.
Bui decided that, that he so seized (him) so that his leg would break if the clothes didn't protect him.

Það skildi Búi að blámaðurinn vildi færa hann að hellunni.
Bui decided that, that the black man wanted him less at the flat stone.

En er þeir höfðu að gengist um stund þá mæddist blámaðurinn ákaflega og tók að láta í honum sem þá að lætur í göltum þá er þeir gangast að og á þann hátt felldi hann froðu.
And when they had engaged in a fight a while then the black man became very exhausted and began to lose in him as then that put in pigs those who they engage in a fight and at this kind he fell (in a) froth. (Z. ganga 16 - gangast at, to engage in a fight)

And when Bui noticed that he withdrew from at the flat stone.

The black man pursued vigorously then again and his cries were awful to hear because he was nearly dead from the fight.

En er Búi kom að hellunni svo að hann kenndi hennar með hælunum þá herti blámaðurinn að slíkt er hann mátti.
When Bui came to the flat stone so that he felt it with boasting then the black man pursued vigorously as such as he was able.

Bui then set about at once that (which) was least expected and he then leapt backward over the slab of rock but the hands of black man got lose (i.e., lost their grip) and slipped from the wrestling jerkin. (Z. öfugur 1 - hlaupa ö., to walk, leap backward) (Z. lauss 1 - verða l., to get loose)

Búi kippti þá að sér blámanninum slíkt er hann mátt.
Bui then pulled to himself the black man such as he was able.

Hrataði hann þá að hellunni svo að bringspalir hans tóku þar sem hvössust var.
He then fell on the slab of stone so that the lower part of his chest caught there where (it) was sharpest.

Þá hljóp Búi ofan á hann með öllu afli.
Then Bui jumped down on him with all (his) strength.

The lower part of the chest of the black men broke in pieces and thereupon he was dead.

Margir töluðu um að þetta væri mikið þrekvirki.
Many said concerning that this was a great deed of derring-do.

Búi gekk þá fyrir Harald konung.
Bui then went before King Harald.

Konungur mælti: "Mikill maður ertu fyrir þér Búi og mun nú skilja með okkur og far nú til áttjarða þinna í friði fyrir oss."
The King said: "You are a powerful man, Bui, and will now from us and go now to your native country in freedom before us." (áttjarða = ættjörð)
