Fríður mælti: "Illt mun mér nú þykja að þú sért drepinn þótt þú værir þess
verður. Mun eg nú
Frid spoke, “It will seem bad to me now that you are slain though you
deserve this. Rather will I now
heldur ganga til föður míns í dag og vita hvar komi þínu máli."
go to my father today and know how your case might turn out.”
Um daginn er fólk var komið í sæti gekk Fríður til föður síns og settist í
kné honum og lagði
During the day when people had come to seats, Frid went to her father and
set herself on his knee and laid
hendur um háls honum og mælti: "Hvernig ætlar þú faðir að skiljast við Búa
veturgest þinn?
(her) arm around his neck and spoke, “How do you intend, father, to part
with Bui, your winter guest.
Væri það nú höfðinglegt að gera vel til hans. Munu að gjarnara ágætir menn
yður heimsækja."
It would now be noble to behave well to him. Excellent men will more
eagerly visit you.”
Dofri segir: "Hvernig vel vildir þú dóttir að eg lúki við hann?"
Dofri says, “How well do you, daughter, want that I finish with him?”
Fríður mælti: "Gef honum ágætar gjafir faðir. Þá má það sjá að hann hefir
mikinn höfðingja og ágætan heim sótt."
Frid spoke, “Give him excellent gifts, father. Then (one) may see it that
he has visited a great chieftain and an excellent house.”
Dofri mælti: "Hvað skal þar til velja?"
Dofri spoke, “What shall (be) chosen for that?”
Fríður mælti: "Gef honum tafl það er Haraldur konungur hefir oft eftir sent
og þar með
Frid spoke, “Give him that board game which King Harald has often sent for
also with it
fingurgull. Má hann þá kaupa sig í frið við konung með taflinu en
fingurgullið skal hann eiga til menja."

Gekk hún þá í braut og til sætis síns.
She went away then and to her seat.
Liðu þessir dagar til sumars og sumars dag hinn fyrsta mælti Fríður til Búa:
"Nú skulum við
These days passed to summer and the first summer day Frid spoke to Bui, “Now

snæða hér í stofu minni. Síðan taktu klæði þín og vopn og lát það til reiðu.

Eftir það gengu þau á fund Dofra. Var hann þá kominn undir borð. Dofri
heilsaði þeim og bað
After that they went to meet Dofri. He was then come to table. Dofri
greeted them and bade
þau sitja og drekka. Þau gerðu svo.
