She then shoved over the beautiful table and made ready that, carried then to him a silver basin and expensive fabric.

Því næst bað hún hann sitja og snæða.
Next she asked him (to) sit and eat.

Tók hún þá góða vist og ágætan drykk.
Then she took (him) good food and excellent drink.

All the table service there was silver and adorned with gold, dishes and vessels and spoons.

Fríður settist þá niður hjá Búa og snæddu og drukku bæði saman.
Fridr then set down beside Bui and they both ate and drank together.

Hún bað hann þá segja sér allt af sínum ferðum.
She then asked him (to) tell all about his journeys.

Búi gerði nú svo að hann sagði henni allt af þarkomu sinni.
Bui now did so and he told her all about his coming there.

"Nú hefir þú vel gert," sagði hún, "að þú hefir ekki dult mig hins sanna.
"Now you have done well," she said, "that you have not hidden (from) he the truth.

Má vera að þér verði ekki mein að því.
It can be that that may do you no harm. (Z. mein, n. (1) - at engum verði m. at, that it may do nobody harm)

En vita þóttist eg áður.
But know (that) I knew previously.

And King Harald has sent many men after this Tafl-board and my father has killed all (of them) but now I will go to meet him and tell him who has come."

Fridr then went away and was away a while.

Búi fagnaði henni vel er hún kom aftur og spurði hvað þau faðir hennar hefðu við talast.
Bui welcomed her well when she came back and asked what they, (she and) her father, had talked about.

Hún kveðst hafa sagt honum að skeggbarn eitt lítið væri komið.
She stated for herself (to) have told that that one little bearded-child had arrived.

Hann lést vilja sjá það.
He (lest?) wanted to see that.

"Eg sagði að það varð að hvílast í nótt.
"I said that, that must rest oneself tonight.

Skaltu nú hér sofa í nótt í mínu herbergi."
You will now sleep here tonight in my room."

Hann lét sér það vel líka.
(It) caused him to like that.

Skemmtu þau sér þar um kveldið.
They enjoyed themselves there during the evening.

14. kafli
Bui woke up during the morning and (there) was then light of day.

Fríður spurði hversu sofist hafði.
Fridr asked how (he) had slept.

Hann lét vel yfir.
He expressed approval.

Hún bar þá að honum ágæt klæði og mælti: "Nú skaltu halda þér upp vel er þú gengur fyrir föður minn og kref hann djarflega jólavistar."
She then carried to him excellent clothes and said: "Now you will hold yourself up well when you go before my father and boldly demand (of) him (your) staying over at Yule."

Gengu þau þá fram í hellinn.
They then stepped forward in the slab of rock. (Z. ganga 15 - g. fram, to step forward)

She then went forward to the place where previously it came to pass (there were) doors and then they came to a large room.

That was hung all around with tapestry and straw on the floor.

Maður sat í öndugi á hinum æðra bekk, mikill og fríður.
A man sat in the high-seat at the more exalted bench, tall and handsome.

He had a large beard and white hair.

This man was well dressed and all it appeared to Bui he (was) venerable.

Both benches were occupied by people and they were many rather big faced.

A woman was busy with contrary to the room and it was the best traveler who sat in the middle.

A table stood around all the room and probably set from and the one who people became that time to use. [Truth in advertising: I am not pretending that I understand this sentence at all.]

Þar gengu og ungir menn og skenktu.
There also went young men and (they) served with drink.

Fríður gekk fyrir hásætismanninn og heilsaði á föður sinn.
Fridr went before the man in the high-seat and greeted her father.

Þessi hinn skeggjaði maður svaraði vel dóttur sinni.
This one, the bearded man replied well to his daughter.
