En fátt varð þeim að orðum þaðan í frá.
There was a coolness between them in speaking from that time.

In this moment Ingibjorg takes to mead-drinking which helps her. (Z. standa 15 - s. hjá e-m, to stand by one, assist one)

Hún tekur þar úr motur hvítan, gullofinn, og gefur Kjartani og kvað Guðrúnu Ósvífursdóttur helsti gott að vefja honum að höfði sér "og muntu henni gefa moturinn að bekkjargjöf.
She takes out there a white, gold-woven, lady's headgear and gives to Kjartan and said Gudrun, daughter of Osvifur, best good to wrap around his head "and you will give her the headgear as a gift from the groom to the bride.

Vil eg að þær Íslendinga konur sjái það að sú kona er eigi þrælaættar er þú hefir tal átt við í Noregi.
I want the Icelandic women see that, that that woman is of no mean extraction whom you have conversation with in Norway. (Is it possible she is getting a dig in by making a bit of a play on words here as she is saying something that sounds similar to: Z. eiga 10 - eiga við konu, to have intercourse with?)

Þar var guðvefjarpoki um utan.
There was a bag made of guðvefjar around the outside.

Var það hinn ágætasti gripur.
That was the most capital thing.

"Hvergi mun eg leiða þig," sagði Ingibjörg, "far nú vel og heill.
"I will by no means accompany you (to your ship)," said Ingibjorg, "fare well and goodbye."

Eftir það stendur Kjartan upp og hvarf til Ingibjargar og höfðu menn það fyrir satt að þeim þætti fyrir að skiljast.
After that Kjartan stands up and turned around to Injibjargar and men were sure of that, that they (Kjartan and Injibjargar) were unwilling to part. (Z. sannr 1 - hafa e-t fyrir satt, to be sure (convinced) of) (Z. þykkja 2 - mér þykkir fyrir (or fyr) e-u, I dislike, am unwilling to)

Kjartan now goes away and to the king, told him that he is then prepared for his journey.

King Olaf and many men with him accompanied Kjartan to (his) ship.

And when they came (to) where the ship floated and (there) was then a gangway to land.

Then the King began to speak: "Here a sword, Kjartan, which you will receive from me at our parting.

Láttu þér vopn þetta fylgjusamt vera því að eg vænti þess að þú verðir eigi vopnbitinn maður ef þú berð þetta sverð.
Let this weapon be attached to you because I want that, that you not become a dead-by-the-sword man if you carry this sword.

That was the finest costly gift and much ornamented.

Kjartan þakkaði konungi með fögrum orðum alla þá sæmd og virðing er hann hafði honum veitt meðan hann hafði verið í Noregi.
Kjartan thanked the king with fine words, all the honor and esteem which he had given while he had been in Norway.

Þá mælti konungur: "Þess vil eg biðja þig Kjartan að þú haldir vel trúna.
Then the king said: "I will ask you that, Kjartan, that you hold well (to) the faith.

Eftir það skiljast þeir konungur og Kjartan með miklum kærleik.
After that they, the king and Kjartan, separated with much affection (or "separated on very friendly terms").

Gengur þá Kjartan út á skip.
Kjartan then went out to (his) ship.

The king looked toward him and said: "Much which to Kjartan and his relatives you (plural) said also will be not easily accomplished with their destiny.
