En er Ólafur frétti þessa ráðabreytni þá þótti honum Kjartan þessu hafa skjótt ráðið og kvaðst þó eigi bregða mundu.
When Olaf learned of this change in his life then he thought Kjartan has hastily decided and said for himself although (that he) would not upbraid (him).

Litlu síðar ríður Kjartan til Lauga og segir Guðrúnu utanferð sína.
A little later Kjartan rides to Lauga and tells Gudrun about his journey abroad.

Guðrún mælti: "Skjótt hefir þú þetta ráðið Kjartan."
Gudrun says: "You have decided rapidly, Kjartan."

Hefir hún þar um nokkur orð þau er Kjartan mátti skilja að Guðrún lét sér ógetið að þessu.
She has there some words concerning that Kjartan could depart that Gudrun was not pleased with this. (Z. geta 6 - láta sér getit at e-u, to be pleased with

Kjartan mælti: "Lát þér eigi þetta mislíka.
Kjartan said: "Don't let yourself disklike this.

Eg skal gera annan hlut svo að þér þyki vel."
I will do another thing so that it seems well to you."

Guðrún mælti: "Entu þetta því að eg mun brátt yfir því lýsa."
Gudrun said: "And you (do) this because I will soon make this known." (Z lýsa 4 - l. yfir e-u, to make known)

Kjartan bað hana svo gera.
Kjartan asked her to do so.

Guðrún mælti: "Þá vil eg fara utan með þér í sumar og hefir þú þá yfir bætt við mig þetta bráðræði því að ekki ann eg Íslandi."
Gudrun said: "Then I will go abroad with you in the summer and you have then over(?) compensated me (for) this rashly because I don't love Iceland."

"Það má eigi vera," segir Kjartan.
"That cannot be," says Kjartan.

"Bræður þínir eru óráðnir en faðir þinn gamall og eru þeir allri forsjá sviptir ef þú ferð af landi á brott og bíð mín þrjá vetur."
"Your brothers are undecided but your old father also they had all foreseen a loss if you travelled from land abroad and asked me for three years."

Guðrún kvaðst um það mundu engu heita og þótti sinn veg hvoru þeirra og skildu með því.
Gudrun stated for herself concerning that would name no one and thought her way where they and parted thus.

Kjartan rode home.

Ólafur reið til þings um sumarið.
Olaf rode to the Thing during the summer.

Kjartan reið með föður sínum vestan úr Hjarðarholti og skildust í Norðurárdal.
Kjartan rode with his father from the west out of Hjardarholt and separated in Northern-river-dale.

Þaðan reið Kjartan til skips og Bolli frændi hans var í för með honum.
Then Kjartan rode to the ship and Bolli his relative was on the journey with him.

Tíu voru þeir íslenskir menn saman alls er í ferð voru með Kjartani og engi vildi skiljast við Kjartan fyrir ástar sakir.
Ten Icelandic men were all together who were with Kjartan on the journey and no one wanted to part with Kjartan on account of affection.
