Líður nú hinn næsti vetur eftir dráp Kotkels.
The next year after Kotkel's slaying now passes by.

Um vorið eftir hittust þeir bræður, Ólafur og Þorleikur.
During the next spring, the brothers, Olaf and Thorleik, meet.

Spurði Ólafur hvort Þorleikur ætlaði að halda búi sínu.
Olaf asked if Thorleik intended to keep his farm.

Þorleikur segir að svo var.
Thorleik says that (it) was so.

Ólafur mælti: "Hins vildi eg beiða yður frændi að þér breytið ráðahag yðrum og færuð utan.
Olaf said: "I would ask you, kinsman, that you change your state of life and go abroad.

Muntu þar þykja sómamaður sem þú kemur.
You will be esteemed as an honorable man from where you come. (Z. sem 7 - þar s., where; þangat s., whither; þaðan s., whence (muntu þar þykkja sómamaðr sem þú kemr)

But I think concerning our kinsman Hrut that he thinks to feel cold from your parting. (Z. kenna 6 - k. hita (kulda) af e-u, to feel heat (cold) from)

(It) is to me little concerning to risk longer that you sit so near one another.

Hrut is a powerful man and his sons the most overbearing and dauntless men.

Þykist eg vant við kominn fyrir frændsemis sakir er þér deilið illdeildum frændur mínir."
It seemed to me to be under obligation on account of family-relationship you my relative deal with hostilities."

Þorleikur mælti: "Ekki kvíði eg því að eg geti eigi haldið mér réttum fyrir Hrúti og sonum hans og mun eg eigi fyrir því af landi fara.
Thorkeil said: "I (have) no anxiety because I am not able to hold my rights before Hrut and his sons, and I will not go abroad because of that.

En ef þér þykir miklu máli skipta frændi og þykist þú þar um í miklum vanda sitja þá vil eg gera fyrir þín orð því að þá undi eg best mínu ráði er eg var utanlendis.
But if it seems to you to be of great importance, kinsman, and it seems to you that concerning in much obligation tarry then I will do because of your words because then I am most content when I was abroad. (Z. mál 11 - e-t skiptir miklu (litlu) máli, it is of great (small) importance)

Veit eg og að þú munt ekki að verr gera til Bolla sonar míns þó að eg sé hvergi í nánd og honum ann eg mest manna."
I know also that you would not do worse to my son Bolla, although I would be nowhere in the vicinity and I love him most of people."

Ólafur svarar: "Þá hefir þú vel af þessu máli ef þú gerir eftir bæn minni.
Olaf answers: "Then you have well of this talk if you do for my request.

I intend for me to do that from now on as so far that to Bolla comes and be to him now worse than to my sons."

Eftir þetta skilja þeir bræður með mikilli blíðu.
After this the brothers part with much friendliness.

Thorleik now hands over his lands and spends money on a journey abroad. (Shouldn't the text say "útanferðar" rather than "utanferðar"?)

Hann kaupir skip er uppi stóð í Dögurðarnesi.
He buys a ship which is laid up ashore at Dogurdarness.

And when he was ready with all he and his wife and other members of his household boarded ship.

Skip það verður vel reiðfara og taka Noreg um haustið.
The ship has a good voyage and reaches Norway in the fall.

Þaðan fer hann suður til Danmerkur því að hann festi ekki yndi í Noregi.
From there he goes south to Denmark because he he didn't feel happy in Norway.

His relatives and friends had left and some driven away out of the country.

Síðan hélt Þorleikur til Gautlands.
Then Thorleik held fast to Gottland.

Það er flestra manna sögn að Þorleikur ætti lítt við elli að fást og þótti þó mikils verður meðan hann var uppi.
Most people say that Thorleik had little to contend with old age and seemed yet great worth happens as long was he was up (meaning "alive"?). (Z. sögn 2 - þat er s. manna, at, people say, the story goes, that)

Og lúkum vér þar sögu frá Þorleiki.
And we bring to an end there (the) story concerning Thorleik.
