Síðan stígur Höskuldur á skip sitt og siglir til hafs.

Then Hoskuld goes on board his ship and stands out to sea.   (Z1 stíga á skip, to go on board) (Z1sigla til hafs, to stand out to sea)  [Apparently "stand out to sea" means "put out to sea"]

Þeim byrjaði vel og komu að fyrir sunnan land, sigldu síðan vestur fyrir Reykjanes og svo fyrir Snæfellsnes og inn í Breiðafjörð.

They got a fair wind and arrived (að?) in the south of the land, then sailed westwards for Reykjanes and then for Snafellsness and into Breidafiord.  (Z1 byrja (), v. impers., e-m byrjar vel, one gets fair wind) (CV fyrir sunnan land, in the south of the land)

Höskuldur lenti í Laxárósi, lætur þar bera farm af skipi sínu en setja upp skipið fyrir innan Laxá og gerir þar hróf að og sér þar tóftina sem hann lét gera hrófið.

Hoskuld landed in Laxarose (Salmon-river-rose (?)), has his ship unloaded there and (but) draws the ship ashore further in (i.e., up) Laxa (Salmon-river) and makes there a shed (for a ship) (að?) and sees there (tóftina???) which he made the shed built.  (Z1 bera (farm) af skipi, to unload a ship) (Z11 setja skip upp, to draw a ship up, ashore)

Þar tjaldaði hann búðir og er það kallaður Búðardalur.

He fit up booths there and that is called Booths-dale.  (Z1 tjalda búð, to fit up a booth (with tent-roof and hangings)

Síðan lét Höskuldur flytja heim viðinn og var það hægt því að eigi var löng leið.

Then Hoskuld lets convey home the lumber (i.e., has the lumber carried home) and that was easy because it wasn't a long road.

Ríður Höskuldur eftir það heim við nokkura menn og fær viðtökur góðar sem von er.

Hoskuld rides home after that with several men and was well received as is to be expected.  (I don't find "von" in Z, but it does have "vænn," which I am assuming is the correct word.)

Þar hafði og fé vel haldist síðan.

Livestock (or wealth) had also remained there well since.  (??)

Jórunn spyr hver kona sú væri er í för var með honum.

Jorunn asks who that woman was who was with him on (the) trip.

Höskuldur svarar: "Svo mun þér þykja sem eg svari þér skætingu.

Hoskuld answers: "Thus you will think that I answer you tauntingly.

Eg veit eigi nafn hennar."

I don't know her name."

Jórunn mælti: "Það mun tveimur skipta að sá kvittur mun loginn er fyrir mig er kominn eða þú munt hafa talað við hana jafnmargt sem spurt hafa hana að nafni."

Jorunn answers: "It will turn out in one of two ways to that rumor have-a-recollection-of lied which before me is come or you would have talked with her so-many (?) as have asked her as-regards-to (her) name."  (Z4 þat mun tveimr skipta, it will turn out in one of two ways)

Höskuldur kvaðst þess eigi þræta mundu og segir henni hið sanna og bað þá þessi konu virkta og kvað það nær sínu skapi að hún væri heima þar að vistafari.

Hoskuld replies this would not quarrel and says to her the truth and recommended this woman to her special charge and states that near his/her condition that she be home there to change-one's-abode.  (??)  (Z virkt 1 has: hann bað af þeim (= h. bað þá) virkta vinum sínum ok frændum, he recommended his friends and kinsmen to their special charge)

Jórunn mælti: "Eigi mun eg deila við frillu þína þá er þú hefir flutt af Noregi þótt hún kynni góðra návist en nú þykir mér það allra sýnst ef hún er bæði dauf og mállaus."

Jorunn speaks: "I will quarrel with your concubine when you have carried from Norway although she knew good presence and (but) now think more that all seems if she is both deaf and dumb. (Z eiga, halda, deilu við e-n , to quarrel or contend with one.) (Z þá er, þá es, when)

Höskuldur svaf hjá húsfreyju sinni hverja nótt síðan hann kom heim en hann var fár við frilluna.

Hoskuld slept with his wife every night after he came home and (but) he was cold with the concubine.

Öllum mönnum var auðsætt stórmennskumót á henni og svo það að hún var engi afglapi.

To all men (it) was clear(ly) generous (?) to her and so that to her was no fool.  (Does this mean that she wasn't made a fool?)

Og á ofanverðum vetri þeim fæddi frilla Höskulds sveinbarn.

And in the latter part of winter Hoskuld's concubine's infant-son was born.

Síðan var Höskuldur þangað kallaður og var honum sýnt barnið.

Then Hoskuld was called to-that-place and he was shown the child.

Sýndist honum sem öðrum að hann þóttist eigi séð hafa vænna barn né stórmannlegra.

(It) seemed to him as to others that he thought to have seen have good child nor (stórmannlegra?).

Höskuldur var að spurður hvað sveinninn skyldi heita.

Hoskuld was questioned what the infant-son should be-called.

Hann bað sveininn kalla Ólaf því að þá hafði Ólafur feilan andast litlu áður, móðurbróðir hans.

He asked the child be-called Olaf because then had Olaf Feilan, his uncle (on his mother's side), died a little before (i.e., shortly before).

Ólafur var afbragð flestra barna.

Olaf was a paragon of many children.

Höskuldur lagði ást mikla við sveininn.

Hoskuld  felt much love for the infant. (Z14 leggja ást, elsku, mætur á e-t, to feel love, affection, interest for a thing, to cherish a thing or person)
