Modern Icelandic is almost the same thin as it was 1000 years ago, Icelandic speakers can still understand Old Norse.

Faroese is also similar, but not as much as Icelandic

Danish, Swedish, Norwegian speakers can not understand Old Norse, but much of it make sense anyway

I speak Danish, and the words are easy to remember and the grammar make sense.

os if you can, you should learn Icelandic

Subject: [norse_course] modern language

Hi everyone,
I know I haven't written in the group but I've been
reading the emails for some time, and was wondering if
someone could tell me which modern language would be
most useful in starting to learn Old Norse? I plan to
take a few language classes this summer and wanted to
start learning Norse at a snail-slow pace, thank you!
