Þá mælti Grímur: "Þú sækir fast að og væri vel að þú hefðir erindi."
Then spoke Grim "You(sing) attack so hard you deserve to win the fight

Grímur þreif þá upp spjót og skaut undir kverk Ásláki og hafði hann þegar
bana.
Grim grabs a spear and thrusts it under Aslak's chin whence he receives his bane
Litlu síðar vó Helgi Egil merkismann jarls. Þá sótti að Sveinn
Hákonarson og lét bera að þeim skjöldu og urðu þeir þá handteknir báðir
Njálssynir.
A little later Helgi killed Egil the Earl's standard bearer. Then Svein Hakursson attacked and had shields held against them (surrounded and pressed with the shields) so that they, both the Njalssons were captured.
[a way of taking them alive - to be punished later]
Jarl vildi þegar láta drepa þá en Sveinn kvað það eigi skyldu og sagði að
væri nótt.
The Earl wanted them killed at on ce but Svein declared it should not be - it was night. (probably thinking they would become aptrgongumenn if this were done)
Þá mælti jarl: "Drepið þá á morgun en bindið þá rammlega í nótt."
Then the Earl spoke "Kill them in the morning but bind them securely at night"
"Svo mun vera verða," segir Sveinn, "en eigi hefi eg vaskari menn fyrir
fundið en þessa og er það hinn mesti mannskaði að taka þá af lífi."
"So shall it be says" Svein "but I have not met more valiant men than these and it were the greatest loss to take their lives"
Jarl mælti: "Þeir hafa drepið tvo hina vöskustu vora menn og skulum vér
þeirra svo hefna að þessa skal drepa."
The Earl spoke "They have killed two of our bravest men and we shall avenge(our own) in killing these"
"Menn voru þeir að vaskari," segir Sveinn, "en þó mun þetta gera verða sem
þú vilt."
"These men were braver (still)" says Svein "but it shall be done as you wish"
Voru þeir þá bundnir og fjötraðir.
They were then bound and fettered
Eftir það sofnaði jarl og hans menn. En er þeir voru sofnaðir mælti Grímur
til Helga: "Braut vildi eg komast ef eg mætti."
After that the Earl and his men went to sleep. But while they slept Grim spoke to Helgi "I want to escape (try at escaping) if I am able"
"Leitum í nokkurra bragða þá," segir Helgi.
"Lets try to move some" says Helgi
Grímur segir að þar nær honum liggur öx og horfir upp eggin.
Grim says that alongside him lies an axe with the edge turned up.
(the sharp end)
Grímur skreið
þangað til og fær skorið af sér bogastrenginn við öxinni en þó fékk hann sár
mikil í höndunum.
Grim crept over to (it) and made to scrape the bowstring from him with the axe but (in so doing) caused a bad injury to his arm
Þá leysti hann Helga. Eftir það skreiddust þeir fyrir borð
og komust á land svo að þeir jarl urðu ekki varir við.
Then he untied Helgi. After that they crawled over the side of the ship (Z) and escaped to the shore - so that the Earl (and his men) knew not of it
Þeir brutu af sér
fjötrana og gengu annan veg á eyna. Tók þá að morgna.
They broke the fetters from themselves and went to another part of the Island
Then it became morning
Þeir fundu þar skip og
kenndu að þar var kominn Kári Sölmundarson.
They found there a ship and realized Kari Solmundarsson had arrived
Fóru þeir þegar á fund hans og
sögðu honum hrakning sína og sýndu honum sár sín og kváðu þá mundi jarl í
svefni.
They went straight (at once) to meet him and told him of their insult/ wretched treatment and showed him their wounds and declared that the Earl would be asleep
Kári mælti: "Illa verður slíkt er þeir skulu taka hrakningar fyrir vonda
menn er saklausir eru eða hvað er nú gert næst skapi ykkru?"
Kari spoke "Evil it is that they should give such insult to men who are innocent
but what now is on your minds"
"Fara að jarli," sögðu þeir, "og drepa hann."
"To go to the Earl" said they " and kill him"
"Ekki mun oss þess auðið verða." segir Kári, "en ekki skortir ykkur áhuga.
En þó skulum vér vita hvort hann er þar nú."
"We cannot grant/allow this" says Kari "you are not short of eagerness
(á-hugi -Z) but we know where he is now"

I believe I am better pleased than with the last one
