They chased after the Uniped and saw him once and thought that he leapt away.
He Hopped away to a certain inlet (vog) then one of the men declared/recited this verse
Eltu seggir,
WE chased to say
allsatt var það,

one (particular) Uniped

A Wondrous man

He chose to run
hart of stopir,
hard was his track

Hearst thou Karlsefni
Þeir fóru þá í brott og norður aftur og þóttust sjá Einfætingaland.
They travelled away then to the North where they thought to find Uniped Country

þeir þá eigi lengur hætta liði sínu. Þeir ætluðu öll ein fjöll, þau er í

They wanted not long to risk their lives. They decided/thought all the mountains/fells were as they found in Hop

and that these were standing as equally far from Straumsfirth in both ways/directions
Fóru þeir aftur og voru í Straumsfirði hinn þriðja vetur.
They went after that to Straumsfirth for their third winter
Gengu menn þá mjög sleitum.
Men went to many quarrels
Sóttu þeir er kvonlausir voru í hendur þeim er kvongaðir voru.
The un-wed wanted in hand the wives of the married men

kom til hið fyrsta haust Snorri son Karlsefnis og var hann þá þrívetur er
þeir fóru á brott.
In the first Autumn Karlsefni's son Snorri was born and was three years old when they left
Höfðu þeir sunnanveður og hittu Markland og fundu Skrælingja fimm.
They had southerly winds and landed at Markland where they met five Skraelings
Var einn
skeggjaður og tvær konur, börn tvö. Tóku þeir Karlsefni til sveinanna en
hitt komst undan og sukku í jörð niður.
One was a bearded man , two women and two children, the Karlsefnis (K & Co.) they took the two boys - the others escaped and went down into the Earth.
En sveinana höfðu þeir með sér og
kenndu þeim mál og voru skírðir.
The boys they kept with them and taught their language and were Baptised
Þeir nefndu móður sína Vethildi og föður
Óvægi. Þeir sögðu að konungar stjórnuðu Skrælingjalandi.
They named their Mother Vethild and Father - Ovægi
They said that Kings ruled Skraelingsland
Hét annar þeirra
Avaldamon en annar hét Valdidida.
One was named Avaldamon and another named Valdidida
Þeir kváðu þar engi hús og lágu menn í
hellum eða holum.
They declared that there were no houses but people lived in caves and holes
Þeir sögðu land þar öðrumegin gagnvart sínu landi og gengu
menn þar í hvítum klæðum og æptu hátt og báru stangir og fóru með flíkur.
They said of another land ?near? their land where the people dressed in white garments and shouted loudly and carried poles and waved banners/staves
Það ætla menn Hvítramannaland.
That they thought was White-Man's Land
Nú komu þeir til Grænlands og eru með Eiríki
rauða um veturinn.
Now they came to Greenland and were with Eirik the Red for the Winter
