But when that time was past, they saw sailing from the south a great crowd
of Skraeling ships so as

(the) Skraelings yelled very loudly. Then

Then they went together and fought. There was a hard shower of missiles.
They, (the) Skraelings, had war slings (atlatl?).

They, Karlsefni and Snorri, see it, that they, the Skraelings, carried up to
a pole a great ball
og blán að lit og fló upp á land yfir liðið og lét illilega við þar er niður

overwhelming force.

of them took up the axe and (one wonders how we know this)

Síðan tók
chopped a tree with (it) and then each to the other (others tried it also)
and seemed to them to be a great treasure and cut well. Afterwards one took
