We have seen this sort of formulation several times before:
"Hvort nam eg þig eða eigi?"

and it seems to me to be very similar to the colloquial usage in German of
"ob" to introduce a question.

"Ob Du moechtest.....?" There is sort of an implied "Tell me" or "I would
like to know."
