"I offered it sometime before," says Gunnar, "but now (it) seems to me
concerning greater (wrongs) to adjudicate."
Njáll mælti: "Eigi er að níta sjálfdæminu, þess að meiri sæmdar er fyrir
vert, er meira er málið."
Njall spoke, "(It) is not (good) to deny self-judgment, this is worth
greater honour (than) before, when (now that the) suit is greater."
Gunnar mælti: "Gera mun eg til skaps vina minna að dæma málið. En það ræð eg
Otkatli að ekki geri hann til saka við mig síðan."
Gunnar spoke, "I will do it to please my friends to adjudge (the) case
(myself). But I advise it to Otkell that he not do (anything) to harm me
afterwards."
Þá var sent eftir Höskuldi og Hrúti og komu þeir þangað til. Vann þá Gissur
eið og Geir
Then (someone) was sent for Hoskuld and Hrut and they came thither. Then
Gissur and Priest Geir took (the) oath
goði en Gunnar gerði gerðina og réðst við engann mann um og síðan sagði hann

and Gunnar made judgments and counseled with no man regarding (that) and
afterwards he declared an end to the judgments.

Gunnar spoke to Otkell, "(It) is advisable for you to go to your kinsmen.
But if you wish to be there
