Gentlemen you have the right of it, I am unable to listen to the local children and young people for long before I wish to offer them English classes.
Why cant the English learn to speak - said Professor Henry Higgins  - and a regional accent has nothing to do with it - it is the bad grammar and worse language
Least said - soonest mended - I am stopping right there

Us English can muck up our own langwidge - like - for real  (excuse me that is an example)

Believe you me - it doesn't take non-natives to mangle
the language! The Icelanders are perfectly capable of
doing so themselves. And I dare say native English
speakers can mangle their own language more thoroughly
than most ...

Quite seriously, some of the things you see teenagers
write these days are positively frightening. And I'm told
that the latest generation is finding it hard to read
anything written before the 20th century. I've even heard
plans for "translations" of Old Icelandic texts for school
use (shudder) - hope it doesn't happen in my lifetime ...
