Gunnar taldi á hann langa hríð en Sigmundur svaraði honum vel og kvaðst meir

eigi þar né Kolskeggur. Farandkonur þessar gengu inn í dyngjuna. Hallgerður
heilsaði

Hallgerd greeted

"Skarphéðinn hvatti
"Greater are they to outward appearance, but they are very inexperienced,"
said they. Skarphedinn whets
öxi, Grímur skefti spjót, Helgi hnauð hjalt á sverð, Höskuldur treysti
mundriða í skildi."

"Hvað gerðu húskarlar Njáls?" segir Hallgerður.
"What do Njal's house servants do?" says Hallgerd.
Þær svöruðu: "Eigi vissum við hvað sumir gerðu en einn ók skarni á hóla."
They answered, "We don't know what some do, but one carries dung to a pile."
