I have been following the discussion on the linguistics of Norway and
imagine that the rugged terraine of the country would contribute somewhat to
a conservative tendency. I found a photo of Hallindal Kvinnedrakt on the
Norskfolkemuseum online collection which seems to show a dress similar to
what was believed to have been worn by women in Viking times. However when
I pointed it out to folks on one of the SCA lists, I was told it was not
authentic and was something concocted in romantic times and not, as I
believe, a holdover from the ancient costume. Would appreciate any
thoughts.
