I regret I got into a kerfuffle - in
a couple of places - this may come from - having too many dictionaries -

þetta orðtak falli niður sem skjótast því að þá er betur að hér sé
fátt til
talað."

Síðan stóð hann upp
og mælti til Ósvífurs: "Vilt þú nú handsala mér niðurfall
að sökinni?"
Thus turned Hoskuld blood red (he blushed) and he said nothing for
a while.
Then he got up and said to Osvif "Will you take hands with ne and
(agree) to drop this charge
Ósvífur stóð
upp og mælti: "Eigi er það jafnsætti að bróðir þinn geri um. En
þó hefir þú
svo vel til lagið Hrútur að eg trúi þér vel til málsins."
Osvif stood up and said "It might not seem fair to both
sides for you to judge but you have spoken so well Hrut I do trust you well
with the case
Síðan tók hann í hönd Höskuldi og sættust þeir svo á
málið að Hrútur skyldi
gera og lúka upp gerðinni áður Ósvífur færi
heim.
Then he took the hand of Hoskuld and they agreed on the case
(that) Hrut should judge and settle before Osvif went
home
Síðan gerði Hrútur og mælti: "Fyrir víg Þorvalds geri eg tvö
hundruð
silfurs" - það þóttu þá vera góð manngjöld - "og skalt þú gjalda
þegar
bróðir og leysa vel af hendi."
Afterwards Hrut Judged and said "For the killing of Thorvald I
award 200 silvers (two hundred ounces?) "- this was thought good mangold
- "and you are to pay at once Brother and let it well from your
hands (Play Nice)
Höskuldur gerði svo. Þá mælti
Hrútur til Ósvífurs: "Eg vil gefa þér skikkju
góða er eg hafði
út."
Hoskuld did even so This said Hrut to Osvif "I want to give

Hann þakkaði
honum gjöfina og undi nú vel við þar sem komið var og fór
heim.
He thanked him for the gift and pleased with the

Litlu síðar komu þeir þannug Hrútur
og Höskuldur og skiptu fé því sem þar
stóð saman og urðu þeir Ósvífur á það
vel sáttir og fóru heim með féið og er
nú Ósvífur úr
sögunni
A little after
that, they came - Hrut and Hoskuld to Osvif to divide the property and they
stood together (?) agreed it was just and so they went home Now
Osvif is out of the Saga
Hallgerður beiddi Höskuld að Þjóstólfur
skyldi fara heim. Höskuldur veitti
henni það og var lengi margt talað um víg
Þorvalds.
Hallgerð asked Hoskuld for Thjostolf to come home.
Hoskuld agreed to this and for a long time
the slaying of Thorvald was talked
about/discussed
Fé Hallgerðar gekk fram og gerðist
mikið.
Hallgerð's property grew and became large
Note #1 this is an Old Proverb - signifying that "A member of my family
is hurt - then I too am hurt"
either that or - if you tweak my nose then my eyes will
water.
More I see of Hrut - more I like him - he is prone to self service, and
to being the "Good Guy" he makes his Brother pay out for the slaying of Thorvald
and in the proverb he implies kinship with Osvif - as if you never know when he
may be needed - and letting the little boy in a previous chapter off - with a
caution was little short of Masterly
