Heil

I briefly introduce myself: my name is Stefano, I live in Italy and I
have begun to study Old Norse on my own, starting from the stunning 'ON
for Beginners' and going through with Gordon's "Introduction to ON".
My aim now is to translate the Gylfaginning and other northern texts in
italian and to place them on line.

Can anybody tell me which is the real difference between the terms "guð"
and "Áss"?
For what I can see, the gods dwelling in Ásgarðr like Oðinn and Þorr are
indifferently called "guð" or "Áss", while other deities are simply
called "guð".
I guess that "Áss" is retained only for northern gods and not for
foreign deities. Is this correct?

thank you very much,
S
