Þorgeirr segir: 'Sé ek nú, hversu horfir, frændi, at þér 460
mislíkar, en ek má þat eigi vita, ok munum vit fylgja þessum

Thorgeirr says"See I now how how things have turned (around) kinsman, that you

are displeased, and I cannot bear this [and] we will aid these men as you wish [howsoever (it) goes] to if you want

I see now how things are changed kinsman that you

are not pleased and I do not want this, we will aid these men if you wish

 

Þorkell mælti: 'Þessa eins bið ek, at mér bykkir betr, at veitt
sé.'
Thorkell spoke " this is all (that) I ask, that to me (seems? [yes, typo in the original, should be þykkir]) better [that (it)] were granted

Thorkell replies "That is all I wish, and it were better to be granted"

 

'Til hvers þykkjask þessir menn fœrir', segir Þorgeirr, 'svá 465
at framkvæmð verði at þeira máli?'
to [Of] what do these men think they can do [capable] " says Thorgeirr to (the ) progress worth [happens in] of their case/cause

What do these men think they can do to help their case

 

'Svá er sem ek sagða í dag, at styrk þurfum vit af höfðingjum,
en málaflutning á ek undir mér.'
It is thus [as] I said on a day [today] [we need] support needed of Chieftains but pleading of (the) suit

do I (?undertake [yes, must have, eiga]) to me

It is as I have said, support is needed of the Chieftains but the pleading of the suit

I shall do for myself    (is this Sam - it does not say so)

 

Þorgeirr kvað honum þá gott at duga, -- 'ok er nú þat til, at
búa mál til sem réttligast. En mér þykkir sem Þorkell vili, at 470
þit vitið hans, áðr dómar fara út

Thorgeirr declares [declared] to him (dat? [yes]) that good to be useful [good (as in easy) to help] and that now [is to (be done) to make a case

to as faultless (as possible) "But I think Thorkell would like you to visit him before the court convenes/gets up

Thorgeirr declares to him that this is useful and a case is to be made faultless. "And I think Thorkell would like you to see him before the court  (Sits/.convenes) 

 

Munu þit þá hafa annathvárt fyrir ykkart þrá, nökkura huggan eða læging enn meir
en áðr ok hrelling ok skapraun. Gangið nú heim ok verið kátir,

It must be you two [you (two) will] then obtain either one of two, whether because of [for] your obstinacy, a certain consolation or disgrace [still ] further than before], and further afflicion and vexation Go you now home and be cheerful

It must happen thet you two will obtain one of two things because of your obstinacy either a cerain consolation or further disgrace, and further affliction and trouble. Mow, go home and be cheerful

 

af því at þess munu þit við þurfa, ef þit skuluð deila við
Hrafnkel, at þit berið ykkr vel upp um hríð, en segi þit engum 475
manni, at vit höfum liðveizlu heitit ykkr.'
because this must be to you with need [you will need that], if you (Two) shall dispute with Hrafmkel, so [that you] carry yourselves well up (? at this time [for a while])  and saying to no man that we have support given [promised] to you

this is necessary for you if you two insist on a dispute with Hrafnkell; so carry yourselves upright at this time (?)  and tell no one that we have given you support

 

Þá gengu þeir heim til búðar sinnar, váru þá ölteitir. Menn
undruðusk þetta allir, hví þeir hefði svá skjótt skapskipti tekit,
þar sem þeir váru óglaðir, er þeir fóru heiman.
